By Courtney C., Midlothian, VA

Stop speeding.
We spend time together
and I honestly don't know why.
You remind me,
what an emotional toxic wasteland Richmond is.
Especially in winter.
But it makes me smile when you ask me
to voluntarily spend the evening with you.
I take the wheel occasionally when you get apathetic.
And it happens much too often.
And boredom sets in as you squirm in your seat,
an infant in a high chair,
tucking legs under and over each other
on a continuous highway acceleration.
Playing with the radio, windows, wipers.
Incapable of concentration.
You don't let people pass you.
Why does a direction instigate a challenge?
Why don't limits apply to you?
Why won't you break around curves?
Dangerous, selfish, exhilarating.
Get your left foot off the dashboard.
You drive the way you love.
