I See the Planet Crying
By Kaitlyn M., Ellicott City, MD
I see the Planet crying, the infinite mourning I see, The lonely elephants crying as their numbers slowly dwindle to make ivory tombstones, The smoky suffocating skies, crying acid tears drawn from the poisoned pollution of man’s carelessness, The rain forest crying as its wild paradise is replaced with a barren landscape of paper, The ocean crying her salty tears, perfect waves now tarnished with rotting refuse and old tires, The lion’s cry as the king of the jungle sees his realm commercialized and destroyed by man’s folly, The whale’s cries, sounding from the heart of the ocean, unheard by deaf and dumb business, The crying of the Arctic as it melts in a slow death, white ice turned to acid rain, The crying of the Redwoods as they are sacrificed for man’s empty pleasures, All crying for the man-made cancer slowly killing Mother Earth, For all I see, mankind turns a blind eye to its crimes against nature, letting the abused planet cry to an apathetic audience, Crying with the soul of the Earth, mourning the forgotten joys of the late Mother Nature
