By Hannah C., Plymouth, MA

I am thoughtful and imaginative
I wonder what will happen to all the beautiful forests I’ve grown to love
I hear the roar of the bulldozers
I see the falling trees
I want to see the deep thick wood, but now I only see pavement
I am thoughtful and imaginative
I pretend that the forest I walk in will be my escape forever
I feel sorrow as I realize that wild places like this are rapidly disappearing
I touch the delicate new leaves of spring and sigh
I worry that soon there will be none of this beauty left
if we don’t do something about it
I cry for all the wildlife that is losing its habitat
I am thoughtful and imaginative
I understand that we need space to build
I say that we also need to save space for trees
I dream that one day all people around the world will make an effort
I try not to litter
I hope that someday soon I can convince my family to recycle
I am thoughtful and imaginative
