By Jeanie C., White Plains, NY

Violated, destroyed, ruined,
this is what has happened to our home.
Taken advantage of, wasted, jaded
this is what we have done to our wonderful environment.
She has offered us everything and we have taken it all,
without a single word of thanks,
we have used her, abused her, corrupted her.
She is bleeding, pleading, but we won’t stop,
we are killing her, slaughtering her, torturing her.
She hates it, but takes it, for she loves us,
she won’t do anything to harm us.
But we, we are murderers,
we are obnoxious villains that will not
rest until we have made sure that we have done
all that we can to harm our environment.
