I appreciated this article in the March issue because I could really relate to it. My mother works in the medical field and has forced me to volunteer since I was little. I didn’t enjoy it until I started playing bingo with the elderly at a nursing home. I was mad that I had to waste my time with old people when I wanted to be out with my friends, but my negative feelings changed once I saw their smiles. How could they like me when I wanted to be anywhere but in the nursing home? But they did and I loved the feeling of knowing that I brightened someone’s day just by playing a game.

Looking back on my experience, I realize how much volunteering not only helped me but also other people. Thank you, Faith, for writing about this. It inspired me even more and hopefully it will inspire others too.
