I totally disagree with Chance Thayer’s opinion in favor of year-round school. Sure, students forget some facts over the summer, but we learn other important things during that time. We have the time, will and strength to be active; I travel to Asia for a month during my summer break to visit family. A three-week vacation, as Chance wrote we should have, simply isn’t enough time for what I want to do there.
Some kids may not use their summers wisely, but there are some who use their two-and-a-half month break for great things. I will use mine to learn about other cultures and see my mother and father. Why let the more life-embracing students suffer just because we can’t memorize every single thing we are taught in class? There are more important things to learn outside of school.
