Teen Ink Blogs

By Molly M., San Antonio, TX

The anonymous piece "Empty" in the May issue really struck me. Very few people have the courage to write about a subject so often considered "wrong" or "bad" in a way that can be understood.

I enjoyed the piece because I, as a dancer, have felt the need to be thin. To me, beautiful is underweight. Beautiful is crossing the line between slender and skinny. I am proud of the person who wrote "Empty" for showing people that eating disorders can happen to anyone, not just ballerinas and models.

The writing is beautiful and I am glad Teen Ink chose to publish the piece instead of thinking it might offend or disgust. There are certain things that must be brought into the spotlight because they happen to the people around you and they need to be talked about. Anorexia is a disease, but there is help.
