Unwillingly Donated to Science

Teen Ink Blogs

By Rachel S., Buffalo, NY

I agree with Alyssa's article that frogs are unwillingly used in experiments, but it seems senseless to describe them in human terms for the very simple reason that frogs aren't human. They do not have a real home. They do not care about their tadpoles. They do not have country clubs or frog friends who will mourn their loss.

Dissecting frogs is disgusting, and the practice is even worse when the specimens are dogs or monkeys, but frogs run on pure instinct. If people must denounce doing dissection in schools, please do so using logical reasoning. It makes more sense to say that it might destroy an ecosystem or affect a food chain. Using sentimentality as an argument does not make sense.
