Hope in the Midst of Prejudice
Aboutten years ago my dad was pastor in a church near Charleston. Two centuries ago,this was a prominent area in the slave industry, and after the Civil War, manyharbored hateful attitudes toward blacks. Families passed down this legacy ofprejudice, some into the 1990s.

Living with a Disability
Onmany occasions teachers have asked, "Is the volume high enough foryou?" while my class watches a television documentary. Many teachers inmiddle school imposed strict rules about where in the classroom I could sit. I'vehad coaches ask if I know sign language.

The Outsider
