Many rarely see a movie more than 25years old. With all the "space-age" special effects of recent movies,the classics are often overlooked. Recently, my dad pulled out the 1950s"African Queen." As I sat doing my homework, I becamehooked.
This romantic comedy is directed by John Huston and starsKatherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. The story begins in Congo, whendestruction hits Rosie's (Hepburn) village at the start of the First World War. Ariver trader, Charlie (Bogart) rescues Rosie, and they begin their journey.Rosie, stubborn as a bull, often clashes with the easy-going Charlie, which makestheir journey down the river hilarious.
As they travel in the war-tornship African Queen, they go through many suspenseful situations that will leaveyou intrigued. Throughout, you will laugh and be amazed more than you everthought possible by a classic. By the end, you will want to watch it all overagain.
So, next time you want to take a chance and see one of those"ancient" movies, or if you're just in need of a short break from allthe modern movies with their hackneyed plots, I suggest trying "AfricanQueen."
