I watch you and forget for a moment that

we are friends.

Sometimesyou seem like a stranger to me.

I can see when something is bothering you,

It is written in your eyes.

When you lack enthusiasm foreverything that once gave you joy,

I am scared.

Our private jokesyou don't laugh at,

And somehow whispering secrets doesn't matter.

All I can do is watch.

You are drifting away into a sea Idon't know.

I am helpless to save you.

At times like these I wishI wasn't your friend.

Maybe then it wouldn't hurt so much.

Iwatch with the sick fascination

That we used to have at horrormovies.

I want to cover up my eyes with my hands

And watch theaction from between my fingers,

But then you would know.

Ican see what you try to hide.

I notice all the pain that you bury.

I'm not trying to hurt you,

Only to let you know you're notalone.

I will listen when you talk to me.

I will be there when youneed me,

And when the burden can't be lifted by either of us,

Iwill get help.

I don't want to just watch.
