Teen Ink Blogs

By Emerald S., No. Vernon, IL

I want to live in a town where I don't have to question who just got arrested for farming meth and not corn
And I want to live in a world where loving yourself is almost as easy as loving everyone around you
I want to live in a world where you can take a nap and not feel guilty
I want to go to a school that has astronomy class under the stars and biology class in the jungle
And I want to be considered beautiful without botox, silicon, acrylic, plastic, nylon, bleach, powder,

dye, silver, gold, rubies, deodorant, moisturizer, cleanser or conditioner

I REFUSE

I want to live in a world where work involves the time you spend spreading your joy to others
I want to live a life that doesn't involve days upon days searching for a moment of peace
And I want to live in a world where all you need is some love

I don't want to wear anything that associates me with anyone else other than myself and other individualists
I don't want to smell like the girl in the commercial
And I don't want to have that model's legs in the magazine

I don't want to shave my legs for some man
I don't want to skip dessert because of the calories
And I don't want to be told "That's the way it is"

I REFUSE

I don't want to sit in a screened-in porch because a mosquito might bite me
I don't want to have to look at the security cameras before I go to homeroom
And I don't want to pass the cop on my way to lunch

I don't want to turn on the TV and see a rating telling me which channel is best suited for my viewing pleasure
I don't want to have to blow up a fake man so I can drive alone at night
And I don't want to have to carry pepper spray in my locker

I REFUSE

I want to live in a world that stops busy schedules to take care of a dying grandmother
