By Elsbeth Y., El Dorado, KS

This land of our forefathers, this sculpted mass,
This place of freedom, this home of diversity,
This thoughtless crowd, sightless inhabitants,
This picture painted beautiful which hangs
Before confused generations,
This riotous group, this peaceful few
This smile craftily carved into the crying,
Faces creating the appearance of happiness,
Or a sheltered people,
Behind a wall of earthly possessions,
This wealthy nation, this abode, this sanctuary, these United States.
