If the moon could see a night sky listening

By Emilie L., Madison, WI

If the moon could see,
and the night sky could listen,
they would see and hear her next to me.
Eyes shut,
mouth shaped open like a glazed donut
The sky would hear her sharp nose breathing in and out a sound,
like a pig caught in the slaughter.
My eyes droop hopelessly, searching for the movies
playing behind my lashes.
The videos project a clear image of her,
smells of old cigarette smoke and cheap perfume,
images of her accompanied by a cup of old coffee,
and her tongue running across her yellow teeth.
Pale blond, unbrushed, matches the hair on her unshaved legs.
Eyes hiding puddles of mystery,
and secrets.
Melted away by uncovered yonder.
The moon is watching and sky listening,
to the movies behind her eyes
