Bonnie, I completely agree with your idea that patriotism is not blind, reckless devotion to one’s country but the state of mind that not only allows us to rejoice in the acts of our country but also to criticize it. It is the inability to speak out against a government that spurs it toward tyranny, and when we open a line of communication between people and their rulers, we establish a more liberated, reformed system of government in which we can devote our time toward mending our problems, not ignoring them.
