Teen Ink Blogs

By Diane N., Hingham, MA

On a moonlit night, dark and drear,

I opened my window,

But only to hear

A faint meow, soft but clear ,

OUT IN THE MIDNIGHT AIR

I went downstairs

Past the living room couch,

And opened my door

To find my cat in a crouch.

"What is it?" I asked,

Looking down at my pet ,

SITTING IN THE MIDNIGHT AIR

He said he saw it -

Big and black:

Nothing a monster could ever lack;

Out by the pond,

As scary as can be ,

OUT IN THE MIDNIGHT AIR

Laughed and laughed

and laughed did I!

ACause over the pond,

Way up in the sky

Was a big round moon

Right up in the sky!

OUT IN THE MIDNIGHT AIR

I laughed again, with great affection

ACause what he saw was his own reflection ,

IN THE POND, IN THE MIDNIGHT AIR
