Teen Ink Blogs

By Holly M., Cleburne, TX

Heat drips in June,
Clinging to our necks as sweat.
We cling to the lake
Along with the mosquitoes.
Our bitten skin is
Scratched raw in the morning.
Dry warmth in July
Keeps us in the water or under trees
But watermelon and fireworks
Floaty toys and tire swings
Make the months glorious
And the dirt that stays in our skin
Is even ignored by our mothers.
Scorched, and parched August
Comes too soon as everything
(even our bodies) are burnt
Red and tan
Sultry weather never gets in our way!
For we are free before September.
