By Michelle O., Ottowa, ON, Canada

let the earth swallow her,
hold onto this broken body
like a mother’s own flailing child
screaming to be loved,
nurtured into silence.
let her lie down with the grass,
release the empty person to the ground
like a sleeping song,
she will take rest
until another life repairs her.
Roots grow, time passes,
the carcass transforms in open pasture
like an apple blossom’s spring arrival
a tree grows in her place
fertilized by past lives.
