By Katie F., Philomath, OR

Escape
from my superman red cape.
now
i want soft,
not hard abdomen,
bulging pectorals
perfection. cool
cucumber. world
saver. unfurl
my banner,
announcer:
i am the joker
it doesn’t matter to me,
i’m gonna laugh, tee hee,
i’m gonna fight you
’cause i’m too angry not to,
good or bad
i don’t care what you are
i don’t know what i am
we are neither, (black or white)
that’s what i know,
i am a joker,
i am laughing,
you are a hero
on a treadmill
chasing
perfection.
chasing criminals,
winning.
i win every second i’m alive.
’cause i am triumphant
no matter what.
i’m building a card house,
and i’m gonna blow it down when i’m done.
