Teen Ink Blogs

By Monica H., Lawrenceville, GA

The rain mimicked the cadence of tearing velcro
When one pressed an ear against the window pane
While the wind knocked the lanky arms of tree upon a wall
As if it were a cantankerous old man thumping a cane
Looking closely at the universe within a drop
The crystal spheres of water held the warmth of a sunset in its core
Yet with only a single tap from a bored fingertip
The world quickly slipped down and away, a tiny suspended star no more
The cooling sun formed precious lavender rain
Smelling so wonderfully sweet, crisp, and clean
That plants held out leafy hands to gently cup the glowing milk
In their greed, bowing their tiny, thin stems of green
Where the sky kisses the tender earth, violets bloom
With discriminating taste, sipping only on lavender nectar
Their petite, sweet, round faces always upturned
When wispy cool clouds slipped upon sky like hovering specters
