By Kiran C., Niskayuna, NY

I sat on the stool
Waiting, thinking and hoping
That everything would go right
Suddenly the doorbell rang
It sounded like thunder
Compared to the silence of the house
I stood up
Looked in the mirror
I straightened my light blue dress
Ran my fingers through my golden hair
Took a deep breath
Opened the door
There he stood
In his khakis and shirt
He wore a striped tie
That reminded me of a candy cane
He took my hand and we walked down
The brick walkway
Then down onto the road
We walked on silently
Until we reached the school
As we went inside
My jaw dropped
Our gym looked like a beautiful spring courtyard
Onto the dance floor we stepped
At that moment in time
I felt as though
The whole world was in my hands
