Teen Ink Blogs

By Madeleine H., Katonah, NY

She hadn’t showered that day
and the wind had done her hair,
whipping the frizzy strands
back
and forth,
as if arguing whether or not
today was the day for braids,
or a ponytail.

A simple hand cream had done her nails
bringing a silver tint
to all but her thumb
which
jutted
out
at its usual
atypical angle.

With the top of her convertible down,
she felt her money had been wisely spent;
choosing the ultimate sunroof
She howled, and
her voice was consumed
effortlessly
by the black velvet
sky.

She suddenly felt as if she had forever lived
in a world of shadows, as
the stars twinkled brighter -
tantalizing her into their world of light.
She tantalized them back by
breathing in the scent of
Life.

The road had never seemed so dark.
