By Jane W., Makanda, IL

Greed is a precarious pier
Over stormy loch and
Painful drop,
And every wasted tear
Is a slipping foot
Closer to the edge.
If you long for ocean depths,
While living on the land;
If you try to grasp the waves
As they mock you,
Slipping through your fingers,
No longer will you thirst for water,
But never will you take another breath -
Nor will you need it
Any longer.
