By Caitlin S., Louisville, KY   (More by this author »)

here’s another drive home
without language,
and this music just
doesn’t express
what i wish i could tell you.
you are so beautiful, and
nothing,
not Fibonacci sequences nor
the Sistine Chapel nor all those
tiny glowing stars
will ever manage to catch up.
and if love can be so
chaste and intangible
then these lackluster letters
aren’t enough:
your eyes will read the fragments
in understated neutrals
rather than the blinking shade of
ardor
i anticipated.
i suppose this is
another lesson in futility,
and the only thing i can do is
get out of the car.
