Please Don’t Go

By Dara G., Deltaville, VA

Shards of my heart lay scattered on the floor
don’t step on them on your way out.
Even though you’re the one who grabbed it and twisted it.
You knew I’d let you, there was no doubt.
You hurled it as fast and hard as you could
until it burst against the wall.
And as it shattered before our very eyes,
to the floor we watched the pieces fall.
So now be careful as you leave.
Please, don’t crunch any pieces under toe.
I’d hate for you to cut your feet
but I’d really hate to see you go.
