Itpushes me off my balance beam
and fractures my heart into pieces
of sharpglass, every time I think
of what I did.

I tried to fit these piecesback together
but they cut deep into my shaky hands.
Maybe if I tell you, Ican lift this weight off my neck.
I want to tell you what hashappened

but every time you stare at me with your
heavenly eyes, mymouth freezes
for I never want your gaze to look
at me with shame.

Iknow you won't uncover the lie
breathing heavily under my
silky surface, but it exhales too much inside.
They hurt and pile heavy on mybody,

these bricks of guilt.
But I guess this is my punishment
forkeeping the truth tucked away in
my pocket like an old piece of Trident.
