Anearly frost for winter, which is late for Fall
Crystallizes blades ofgrass,
to crunching freezer burn.
Tender plant stems witness
an almostdarker, cooler wind
that Winter touches earth.
A frost wasn't expected, and some of these were uncovered,
but our tickled, water-spritzed feet justspoon through the Fall icing.
Did any ample green survive,
the chilly lasthalf
Of the night?
Those - with their skin unbitten - have morning'sdew
Normal, clingy, warm, stickiness
Revitalize them at dawn.
