Many an hour, many aday
I sit down with the desire to just get away
I wield my guitar with theutmost of care
And my fingers place themselves, I need not tell themwhere
They know the strings better than my eyes ever could
And they driftto the places and strings that they should
As I sing and I play across thestrings my fingers dance
And I pick away viciously at them with my otherhand
The hours seem like minutes when I dance on the strings
And sing alongrandom songs about love and such things
My fingertips bleed by the time thatI'm through
But that doesn't stop me, and I sing of what I once knew
As Istrum those strings violently with tender care
I dream of the love insidethat's no longer there
So I continue to play as the strings take theirtoll
On the empty space between my heart and my soul
The music reminds meof the things I had to cherish in days past
But in the end, like this song, good things never last ...
And I let the pick go, and my fingers slide off thestrings until tomorrow.
