A summer day at the Washington Zoo
a white-bearded creature was staring atme
with his big brown eyes
and yellow stained teeth.
I traveleddown
the elephant-boned path.
The gift shop rose over
the camel-humphill
dressed all in white
with its very own red-orange cap.
My monkeywas on the wall of
the
people house.
I paid my zoo dollars
and spedthrough the tunnel
until I reached my home.
I pinned my new friend next toall the others.
This was
without a doubt
the best.
My very own
flattened,
bearded,
brown-eyed,
yellow-toothed,
smile-inducer.
Ianswer his request
and feel the pride of
the monkey on mywall.
