sweet notes
reverberate in silence
in an empty upstairs hall
in anash-strewn fireplace.
we ache from the absence
of his hearty laugh...
only the tinny,
high-pitched
giggles of children
remain.
iwill not sleep tonight.
if there are no sweet notes,
there will be no sweetdreams.
a flawed syllogism,
maybe,
but i've never pretended tologic.
dulcimer,
return tonight
and pluck your magic tune
on your ownfine strings.
reverberate in silence,
sweet notes.
i will not sleeptonight.
