Sunday worea long, brown skirt
that touched right above the ankle
during along, hot summer day
with heavy dampness in the air.
Sunday woreno shoes
"feet should feel the hum of theground."
Sunday walked along the bare prairie
across to themidday sun
up to a stream and dipped right in
water up to theknee.
Sunday walked back home
toward the light of the moon
andsat on the porch
to listen to crickets
until the day wasdone.
And right at twelve
Sunday left
and Monday took herplace
with her own look
and waddled walk
but all the same timeto spare.
