Behind These Brown Eyes

Teen Ink Blogs

By Joy Z., Congers, NY

   On the outside

it may seem

I can handle everything

that comes my way.

But behind

these brown eyes

are bronze file cabinets,

cast into concrete walls

woven with chicken wire.

My mind has locked them,

with a skeleton key, which

fear conceals like

silence hides an opinion;

no one knows

I've put chains on my emotions. I've

locked them behind bars

like an axe murderer

waiting for the electric chair.

A dictatorship rules

behind these brown eyes.
