By Anonymous, Framingham, MA

What this school book has been through no one will know

The owners oh so many

Skipping around from one to the next

One year happy, the next year very sad.

Torn pages on the inside oh how it hurts

The binding all fumbled and disheveled.

What will this new owner do to it next?

Once in a while a new owner with care

Would make this book look somewhat prettier.

A new cover with hearts and stars,

Pretty new decorations for all to admire

Doesn't last long, a new owner soon steps in

Who throws it and tears it,

Stomps and slams it,

Beats it and hits it,

But why should they care

It is only a book says some,

At least not some child.
