Too Late

Teen Ink Blogs

By Nicci L., North Brookfield, MA

   A bundle of joy

wrapped and waiting for

you

to rush over and take

me into your arms.

But you linger back

and fade into the

darkness.

The terrible two's

and all i wanted

was a bedtime story.

But too little to understand

why you never took turns

with mommy.

Six years old

and i thought i was Larry Bird

all i needed now was to

learn to shoot the ball.

But never important enough

to win your time to teach

me.

Ten years rolls around

and all i wanted was a hug

and maybe someone

to walk with

and talk with

and laugh with.

i wanted to help you trim your mustache

but i was "too stupid" to learn.

15 1/2

my rebellion years

"Let's have lunch" you say

but hon, i am just

too cool for you

and you are just too late.

Sucks for you,

'cuz you just let me slip right

through your fingertips and i am

not coming back.
