   My family,

is only a phone call away

from my present life.

When I talk to them every other Sunday,

the 4000 miles between us seems so near

but also so terribly far away.



When I hear their familiar voices,

I get a lump in my chest

and sometimes tears in my eyes.

Just hearing the sound of them,

and knowing what they're doing right then,

makes me miss them so much.



Their voices so near and presence so far away,

helps me discover feelings

I haven't felt before.

Because I never really knew how much

my family meant to me,

until I was 4000 miles away

from a simple hug ...
