Blackened State

By Brian M., Shrewsbury, MA

Colors show the way life should be,

But the ways of life I cannot see,

So I pick black to be the one,

'Cause it will be black when my life is done,

Black is the color of my heart,

I've seen black since the start,

It was black before my birth,

And it'll be black when I leave this earth,

The little boy saw black when he cried,

The old man saw black when he died,

In the dead of night black shows bright,

At the dawn of night I stop the fight,

My problems leave as black fills the room,

I saw black in the lifegiving womb,

Blackness guides me through my sleep,

Black is life; the endless whole so deep.
