By Jennifer T., Manchester, CT

   I see a man, in a bed;

looking lonely and sorrowful,

like a part of him has been taken away.

But he doesn't see me looking at him.

He knows I visualize the outside,

but I also see inside his soul.

I see the years of his life that he watches flash by.

And I see the dry tears in his heart when he fails as he tries.

I see a man, in a bed.

So eager to be young again.

A man who wants to dance and sing.

A man who would give anything for just one more

chance to drive his car again.

I see a man, in a bed.

An old man with a young spirit.

A man who does everything in his power

to keep that spirit alive.

I see so much that others can't see.

And it gets so hard. I watch him slowly deteriorate,

a little bit more each day. And he keeps fighting.

He hasn't given up yet, but what happens if he does?

I've always stuck by him through the best and the worst,

and this time won't be any different.

I love him, I care for him, and Ill always be there for him.

This man is my grandfather.

I see a man, in a bed;

Looking lonely and sorrowful.

Like a part of him has been taken away.

But he doesn't see me looking at him.
