The Humpback Sound Of Tragedy

By Leslie M., ,

   Titanic tidal waves,

Splashing against playful, humpback bodies.

Sounding their call,

Melodies echo through the ocean.

Humpback shapes make

Graceful movements through the sea

While little ones sing their song of joy

As they tag along the ocean floor.

I see harpoon boats coming;

This breaks the joyful notes.

Their blustering, boisterous sound

Disturbs the shimmering sea.

While whales try to swim

This way and that

Their bodies are just too large,

And the boats are just too fast.

Whales are harpooned

And their song is stilled forever.

The baby humpback just cries

His soprano note of tragedy.
