By ELIZABETH T., Waltham, MA

   The day he came

The weather was cold.

He stayed outside

Like growing mold.

We invited him in

But he declined to enter.

He ate at the door

Standing at the center.

At last it happened:

He came into our house!

He ate under the table

Quiet as a mouse.

We named him Smokey,

For he is grey and white.

A tiger cat, we think

I sure hope we are right!

He takes over our chairs

And must have his way

Whenever he's in

No matter the time of day.

We love our cat, Smokey,

No matter where he may roam

But unlike before

He has a place to call home!
