Teen Ink Blogs

By Michelle J., Washington, D.C.

An assumption insidiously sprouts in
A single mind, ironically blessed with
the parasitic
Ability to deteriorate and absorb
The foundation of years
Of wisdom, pride, and culture,
Yet whose own hollow premise is only
A product of ignorance and biased
perceptions,
Sowed carelessly, and thoughtlessly.
It delves deeply into and permeates
throughout
The mind of a mere babe,
Whose future decisions mirror those of
its predecessors,
And when fully mature, it quietly seeps
into the native earth,
Dissolving even the strongest plant
roots and leaving only the minuscule
saplings
To struggle to acquire the sparse
remnants of the abundant nutrients
Its parents once possessed.
