Supported by National Endowment for the Arts, high school students spend 5-weeks at Wesleyan University. We offer 10 art forms, plus amazing interdisciplinary classes. All arts, all of July.

The Center for Creative Youth (CCY), a summer pre-college residential program, offers talented high school students four weeks of intensive study in the arts at Wesleyan University, one of the country’s most distinguished liberal arts colleges. CCY is a program of the Capitol Region Education Council and is sponsored in collaboration with Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts. CCY emphasizes multicultural and interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking and leadership. Each class is designed to enhance students’ problem-solving skills in instrumental and vocal music, theater, musical theater, technical theater, creative writing, dance, filmmaking and visual arts, which includes photography.

Center for the Creative Youth was one of the greatest experiences for my artistic career. CCY provides a safe environment for students to learn not only as artists but as individuals. Each day, students are challenged to reach new heights, develop new bonds, and most importantly, grow. It was truly one of the best and most beneficial experiences I have ever had!

I can't say enough about this program and what it did for me as a writer. CCY provided a safe space for me to try new things and grow, as a teenager and as a young artist. The supportive environment helped me find new confidence, and my wonderful teachers and classmates encouraged me to take chances and taught me lessons that I'm still drawing from. One of the best programs I have ever taken part in. The teachers are very knowledgable and well-qualified in their fields. Not to mention the TAs/RAs are graduates of the program, so they are familiar with the area, and extra helpful when you need anything. Overall, if you are a student interested in the arts, whether it be visual, preformance, or musical, I say that this program is perfect for you. The Center for Creative Youth (CCY) is an amazing, emersive experience for precollege students with a growing passion in the arts. I had the best experiences at CCY and even returned to be an RA. It's a great program and a tremendous experience for new artists.
