How can I help my students get published?
Our editorial staff looks for a variety of work by authors and artists
from all over the country. Some sections, like the Art Gallery,
Environment and Community Service have considerably fewer submissions,
so there is less competition to get published. Poetry has the most
submissions. You can also help your students get their holiday-specific
pieces published by encouraging them to submit at least two months
before the holiday.
Teen Ink needs photos of teens! Your
students don't have to be "serious photographers" to have their photos
of friends featured in Teen Ink's magazine or on the website. See our
contests page for more information about submitting clear color
photographs for our Cover Teen contest.
And of course, the
more writing and artwork your students send, the greater their chances
of getting published! All student work is considered for publication on
our website, in our monthly print magazine and for the Teen Ink book
series.
How can my students submit artwork?
Students can send photocopies or clear, color photographs of any kind of
artwork, including oil and watercolor paintings, sculpture, collage,
computer graphics and much more! If students mail or email artwork, be
sure they include their name, date of birth, home address/city/state/zip and
telephone number. If they send original artwork or photographs, remember
that we can't return them. See our guidelines for sending artwork and
photos.
How often can my students submit work?
All the time! Teen Ink has no deadlines and we accept work all school
year and throughout the summer. See our submission guidelines for more
information.
Who decides what gets published?
Our professional editorial staff reviews tens of thousands of
submissions each year. Every submission is read by at least one, usually
two editors. We look for a diverse collection of topics and publish a range of ability levels.
Can I start a subscription mid-year?
Yes! You can start a class set subscription at any time. The cost is
prorated for the remaining months of the school year. Subscribe now at
our special educator rate!
How do I renew my class set subscription?
Your subscription for a class set automatically renews in September of
each new school year. However, you are under no obligation and can
cancel or change your subscription at any time.
What if I need more than 30 copies?
We can only ship class sets in boxes of 30 magazines, so you must order
class set subscriptions in multiples of 30.
What should I do if I have extra copies?
Many teachers share their copies with other teachers, libraries,
community youth organizations and give them to students to take home.
When should my class set arrive?
Your magazines should arrive within the first 10 days of each month.
How can I get more involved with Teen Ink?
We welcome teachers to participate Teen Ink projects in a variety of
ways: consider joining our Teacher Advisory Board and help answer
questions and develop curricula for Teen Ink educators around the
country; or participate in Teen Ink book evaluations and let your
students have a say in a national publishing effort. Even just taking a
few minutes to jot down the ways you use Teen Ink in your classroom or an
anecdote about how your students respond to the magazine is valuable to
us! Let us know what you think!
Can I get a sample issue of Teen Ink?
Simply fill out the sample issue form and we'll mail you a copy of our next issue!
Can my students get published in the Teen Ink books?
All student work is automatically considered for the Teen Ink book
series, magazine and website. Our editorial staff picks the best of the
best to be published in Teen Ink books, so encourage your students to
submit, submit, submit!
