This is a sign I found at Auschwitz, Poland, in french that reads : Remember, Nearly 76 000 Jews were deported from France of which over 11 000 were children. Nearly 69 000 of them were deported to Auschwitz, nearly 900 to Kaunas, over 2 000 to Maïdanek, over 2 000 to Sobibor. Of all these deported, 2 500 only came back, or 3 % of them. Over 3 000 resistants were deported to Auschwitz. Among the latter only 969 came back. These numbers are staggering and prove the horrors of what happened at the extermination and concentration camps across Europe. « read less
