I sensed the warmth of the flames and the smell of burnt rubber. My eyes flickered open to see my mothers face staring down at me. Were we camping? Did my dad throw something rubber into the fire? No. Then why did this look so calm and joyful? I was imaging it. All of it. We were still driving to New York City weren’t we? Wake up. Wake up! My whole view blurred and came back to reality. Yes, we were still driving to New your City. Up ahead, a mustang appeared to be in a hurry and was trying to get around a semi. They were headed towards us. My mom didn’t see it. Good. she would turn us around in a heart beat. The mustang veered into our lane. Crap! It wouldn’t make it would it? No. We would run into it unless it speed up. The driver of the mustang must have noticed the same thing and speed up. A few yards ahead of us it veered back into the correct lane in front of the semi but they were too close. The semi swerved to avoid hitting the tiny car in front of it. The driver lost control of the big truck and it turned into our lane and flipped right on top of my moms tiny car. I couldn't feel anything. I turned my head to out the back window and see the mustang speeding away. Jerk! I turned to my mom. Her eyes were closed. That cant be good.
"Mom? Mom! wake up! Mom! Please!" I was screaming as tears ran down my face and I shook my mom wildly. The semi had only crushed the engine and the dashboard. Luckily I had been sleeping with my seat reclined and my feet up on it. I had missed most of the damage but I had hit my head on the door and my wrist was stuck between the seat and the door. Whoosh! I watched as the engine lit like a match. People were standing around in shock. The truck driver had gotten out safely and now ran towards my door to make sure I was alright. I looked at him and begged for him to help me out. He pulled on the door hard until it budged free. I jumped out and ran to the other side of the car. With the truckers help I was able to get the door open and we pulled my mom out. I heard a baby cry and I remembered something very important. I ran back to the car. The back door opened easily enough and I unbuckled the little baby girl from the car seat and hugged her. Help came soon after and put the fires out. They put my mom into the ambulance and gave everyone that had taken part in the crash check-ups. We were given the kindness of cops to take us home so I thanked the trucker for all of his help and got into the car holding the baby in my arms.
