Skittles Can Change A Life

Dear JV,

It all started with that one bag of skittles. Such a tiny thing...turned into such a big thing. To you, that bag of skittles was just a bag of colorful candy. But to me, it was the thing that ended up changing my day. The thing that ended up changing my life. Yeah, I will forget about that bag of skittles in a couple of years. It will be just a faded memory. You will be, too. But for right now, that bag of skittles means the world.

You see, JV, I have had a huge crush on you since the 3rd grade. Now we are in 8th grade. I never would of guessed that 8th grade was the year that this would happen. I would hide behind my books, quickly taking peeks at you from behind the pages. You didn't even know my name. But I knew yours. It was scrawled all over the back cover of my notebook, too. You were my first love, my first crush. And you had no idea.

The funny thing is, I don't even like skittles that much. They aren't my favorite kind of candy, and I don't think they are amazingly yummy or anything. The reason I bought them from the vending machine was because there was only one bag left. I found it kind of sad. That one little bag of skittles was all alone, waiting for some one to buy it. Kind of like me. So I bought them. Who knew that it would change me forever.

By the time I got back to the classroom, my hunger pains were gone and I had no desire to eat anymore. I was extremely nervous because 5th period was the class I had with you. You sat right in front of me. I always get nervous, looking at the back of your head. The whole class was silent reading, including you. The teacher was fast asleep, drooling with her face pressed against her desk. Oh, Mrs. Galin, how silly you are.

Since Mrs. Galin was asleep, I figured that it wouldn't be a big deal if I ate my skittles. I slowly pulled out the bag from my pocket. And I ripped open the colorful bag of candy. Then, you turned around. You turned around, and you looked at me.

The breath was caught in my throat and words I wish I could say were caught on my tongue. You looked straight into my eyes. My heart beat faster, and my palms got sweaty. I felt like I was going to vomit. Then..

"Hey, can I have one?" you said to me.

And you smiled.
