Typical. I would make a complete fool of myself running into Shawn Lane, of all people.
“Sorry,” I said in a whisper, looking down all the while into his broad chest.
He gently lifted my head with one of his long fingers. I couldn’t help, but stare into his beautiful eyes where a twinkle of mirth rested, “Don’t worry about it.” He said.
We stood there for a few moments, not saying a word. One of his arms still encircled me though the collision had happened at least five minutes ago.
“We are going to be late to class,” I broke the trance and started to walk around him, but he just blocked my way.
“Wait,” He said almost desperately, “I need to talk to you.”
“What do You and I, have to talk about?” I spit out the words without thinking and immediately regretted them. The sadness in his eyes let me know I had hit a nerve. I apologized, stuttering to no end.
“I deserve it.” It was his turn to turn his gaze to the floor.
“What!?!” I said in utter disbelief. His head darted up, showing that he was completely surprised by my reaction.
“If I hadn’t have been such of a selfish jerk, you and I would still be friends!”
“I was the one being the jerk. I got upset about you and Katrina when it was none of my business. Though I never thought she was your type. I actually recall a conversation where you said ‘I will never ever go out with a girl like her’,” I mocked Shawn’s voice when I quoted him.
He bit his lower lip trying not to smile, and slid his hands into his jean pockets while rocking back and forth on his heels. He looked so adorable and kissable at that very moment, that I was very tempted to do so. Whoa There! What in the world was I thinking. Even if Shawn and I were to become friends again, that is all we would be, just friends.
He suddenly stopped biting his lip and rocking back and forth. “I was trying to make you jealous,” He now looked at me so intensely, obviously expecting an answer, that I was at a loss for words.
“Oh,” Was the only thing that slipped out of my mouth at first, but then I finally continued, “ Why would you want to make me jealous?” I was sincerely curious and a little bit confused.
“Well, I…I,” It was not like him to be unconfident unless he was extremely nervous.
“You what?” I stroked his muscular arm trying to calm him down and persuade him to tell me what he was thinking. At that moment he kissed me. And well naturally I kissed him back running my hands through his soft wavy, dark brown hair.
Shawn ended the kiss and he evidently had regained all his confidence back. “I love you,” He whispered on my lips. I smiled.
“I love you too,” I surprised even myself when I said it, but it was true. Completely and utterly true. I had now finally realized why losing his friendship had meant so much to me.
He leaned into kiss me again, but I stopped him with my finger. He gave me a fake pout using his big blue puppy dog eyes to his advantage, and I almost gave in, but there was still one thing I had to know, “ Why didn’t you just tell me you loved me instead of trying to make me jealous?”
“I guess I was scared.”
“Scared of what?” I asked with one eyebrow raised.
“Losing you.” Once again he leaned into kiss me, and this time I let him. It was so blissfully sweet that I swear I heard a bell ring.
And that story, my friends, was an unexpected happening.
