Plenty of killers can get their guns legally. Well, if I had my heart set to kill something ( which I totally don't, just an example, k? k. ) and this is figurative if I was old enough to own and buy a gun, I could go down to the gun store, buy a shotgun and flash my permit ( once again assuming I was old enough ), then walk down the street and start shooting.

And on your argument for banning automatic weapons...If we banned automatic weapons, look at this in another example. Somebody with an assault rifle walks into a crowded room and starts shooting. He would be able to down more people in a shorter time-span because of the sheer amount of ammo he could feed out of that thing in that amount of time. ( Although I'm not denying they can still get these things illegally, banning automatic weapons would just form a illegal market for them (( which there probably already is. )) ).
If he had a pistol, more people could probably get away before he had to reload his ten round magazine ( or whatever its called. ) It might not decrease gun violence, but it could have some affect on death tolls from these kind of things.

Just my opinion though. K bai.

Did you look at Leafy's first link? Gun violence won't go away if we increase controls on guns. I know that. But it will go down.

I believe in the right to bear arms. Largely from studying the history of the left. Nothing says the government should have all the guns like National Guardsmen being used to shoot unionists

Packerbacker:

If that's true why do automated weapons exist?

If your answer is "so we can kill people better"

Then BINGO!  You've got it :D

And when we can kill people better, more people die :D

LOGIC

I'm not saying making automatic weapons illegal for mentally d.eranged minors is going to completely stop gun violence.

I'm saying it'll help a bit :)

Question: How would restricting mentally-der.anged minors from possessing automatic weapons increase gun violence? Or even more---create a civil war?

So the core of your argument is, "Gun control will lead to a full-scale revolt by gun lovers?"

I'm not sure what that says about the effectiveness of gun control. It does say quite a bit about some gun lovers, though...

Why would you want all your eggs in one basket? Being able to depend on cops and feds is dandy and everything, but I feel so much safer if I depend on myself and people I actually know. It just doesn't make sense from a safety standpoint to regulate civilians and their guns. In an ideal world, the government works for the people, but by regulating guns, they are working against the people. They are limiting their rights, making it more difficult for a citizen to defend themselves, making it easier for a criminal to harm someone else, and making criminals rich, because of the unregistered guns they sell. I seriously don't think we should all have to suffer for those few nut jobs that shoot innocents for no reason. If everyone has a gun, situations like that will be easily diffused, as in someone will shoot said nut job where they stand before they can hurt anyone. Guns aren't a weapon, they are yet another tool created by mankind to make life easier. It's easier to shoot prey then to trap it, it's easier to shoot threats then to run from them, it's easier to whip out your gun when you want people to leave you alone then it is to call the cops.

I agree, I just don't think we need to give everyday Joe an AK-47.  Because if everyday Joe turns out to be one of those nutjobs who shoot people he'll get a lot more people killed.

I do know about background checks, I support background checks!  I BELIEVE IN BACKGROUND CHECKS

I AM A BACKGROUND CHECK

But yes, I know about them.  I think they could be a little stricter, but I'm glad that we both agree they should exist :)

Don't see why Americans want to carry guns all the time. Being a Canadian, and a pacifist, I can't understand it.

Canadians have guns too, there is some great hunting up in Canada. People need to understand that some people depend on their guns. It's not like someone with a gun goes out looking to shoot someone, that is the last thing we want to do. I'd much rather walk away from a fight then have to explain to the cops why I shot someone, or have to dig a bullet out of my flesh and stitch myself up. I'd say about 75% of the protein me and my family consume comes from wild game. If my gun was taken away, our choices would be to get really good with a bow, or starve. I don't trust supermarket meat, and I have a hard time eating meat when I wasn't there when the animal was slaughtered. Guns aren't around for violence, they are a tool. No one has any right to take a survival tool away from us, or try to regulate how much ammo we purchase, because it is honestly no one's business. As long as I'm not walking outside and shooting everything that moves, I don't see a reason for concern. Why is the government afraid of civilians having guns? The worst they could do is shoot something. It's not like a single civilian with a rifle is gonna bring down the white house or something. I was raised in a gun friendly household. I was about six the first time I fired a gun. I've seen people get killed from bullet wounds, I've been shot myself a few times, but I'm still not afraid of guns. It's because the gun isn't what we need to be worried about, it's the person behind the gun that is the killer, and they will kill anyways, weapon or not. The trick is to shoot them first before they cause anymore damage. We wouldn't be able to defend ourselves from those kinds of people without guns. It seems pretty black and white to me. Guns aren't to blame for the mentally unstable's violent streaks.

I just don't think an everyday citizen needs an AK-47.  Because when one of those deranged violent people go on a killing streak with an automatic weapon, it's a lot worse than if they had a handgun or something.
