I don't even stand up :P but I don't like that about myself, it's more out of laziness than anything.

The government is corrupt, true, but the U.S. goes through phases like this just like any other government. If I DID stand up and say the pledge, I'd put my hand over my heart for the sake of the government we use to have.

Of course I do. Just because a government is corrupt doesn't mean I don't support it. I am a loyal American, and will continue to be unless our government does something really drastic (like do something to infringe the rights to bear any arms, religion, talk out against them, etc.). I think a lot of people today think that the US government hasn't been corrupt in the past, or if it has, isn't as corrupt as it is now; that's false. Forget Richard NIxon; under-the-table deals were going on since the founding of the Union to get personal agendas advanced.. Just look at James Buchanan; most historians believe he spent up to $30,000 (worth more then) to pay people to vote for him. That doesn't mean we should excuse corruption now, but we shouldn't give up on America because of it. America isn't perfect, and never has been, but I still believe that even today it offers a lot of hope to the world, and that's something I can pledge allegiance to.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands- one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

If you don't like that, fine.
I say it. I'm not pledging allegience to the government, or the president, or corrupt politicians. Notice none of the three are mentioned in the pledge. I pledge allegience to my country, the symbols that stand for it, and the ideas that it stands for. I pledge allegience to my fellow citizens, God, freedom, equality, and the hope that even if I don't like the current leaders (which I don't), things will get better.

I didn't used to say the pledge, but that was mostly because I resented the idea of being required/expected/forced to do it. But I've gotten more patriotic over the past few years, and nobody was forcing me to say it in the first place. When I say it it's because I choose to.

I pledge allegiance to no one. No one has ever helped me before, and I don't need anyone's help if it comes with so steep a price. I wish I could write up a peace treaty with the government, they leave me alone, and I leave them alone. But then the U.S. has never been so good about holding their peace contracts. Look at what they did to all the natives.

exactly junie! i agree:) though i do pledge allegiance to Israel because their whole pledge is talking about how G-d freed them from captivity.

human: that is prophecy being fulfilled right before our very eyes. a one world government.

sorla: i don't blame you:)

everyone: i thought it was kind've ironic that the first people that replied on here are patriotic but the poeple after them aren't:)

Shalom Alechiem!

Awful patriotic bunch we've got here...

Packerbacker:  The physical Israel in the the Middle East is a man-made country.  God isn't dealing with a people or nationality any more, he's dealing with individuals from every country.  That's why I don't have allegiance to Israel.

(Not trying to start the Israel argument up again, just explaining.)

I agree with Imagine, I pledge allegiance to the ideas, not the ongoing execution of them.

"Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's"

My allegience, so far as it doesn't conflict with my faith, is the U.S.A's.  So I will render it to them.

The principle is 'obey the law of the land'. The example Christ used was taxes.

If any passage in the Bible was that cut and dry, it wouldn't be at all applicable to our lives, so I have to disagree with you PB

What's Caesar's?  My soul?  My life?  My body?  My time?  My resources?

Wrong.

I serve my parents, two masters :)

My loyalty so far as it doesn't conflict with my faith is "Caesar's"

You and Packerbacker and a lot of others in this thread are overdramatizing things.

And I mean a lot :P
