Thing is, though, some people can't just end up in a monogamous heterosexual relationship. The only thing depending on society is whether or not people accept you. It is genetic. I can vouch for that.

MonaLisa: First off, I like your username. Mona Lisa always made me feel... nuetral.

You question can be answered with Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve sinned against God. Since sin came into the world, mankind have disobeyed God on every level. Polyg@my is one of them. If you continued to read in Genesis, you would find that some men were tricked into having more than one wife, and numerous concubines. Others just indulged in this sin.

Jacob (a.k.a Israel) loved Rachel. He worked for Laban for 7 years to 'earn' her. But Laban gave him Leah, Rachel's older sister, instead. He tricked Jacob by covering Leah's face right before he layed with her. When Jacob found out, it was to late. But, Jacob stilled loved Rachel, so, he worked for another 7 years.
Laban lied to Jacob. This is not what God wanted, but God knows how to turn things out for the good.


In conclusion, bible heroes are not perfect. Only Jesus. David was 'a man after God's own heart' and even he sinned.

You have to realize the Bible is a history book. It isn't just a list of laws. Its record of the people of Israel. How they kept strayin away from God, how God warned them of their actions via prophets, how they ignored the prophets, how God punished them, how they turned back to God after He punished them, how God rewarded them for their repentance, and how the cycle starts over.

No man in the Bible was considered righteouss. They were saved by faith and grace alone. Only Jesus is perfect. Not Solomon, or David, or Elijah.

MonaLisa: Because mankind are sinful people. Remember, people in the Bible are normal people. The played games as children. They worked as adults. Some of them were beggars. Others were farmers. Others were government officials, or poloticians. They were normal people. And like all normal people, they sinned. They sinned alot. As for 'more than one wife' (mtow for short. The other word keeps being filtered), that was the generic sin. People thought that it was acceptable. Just like how people thought slavery was okay a hundred years ago, and how homosexuality is okay now. 
 
Genesis is a relatively small book, containing 50 chapters. You  can probably finish it in 3 hours. If you read Genesis, you'll see how mtow was the work of man through lies and deciet.

HOLD UP! In the BIBLE people had multiple wives because they couldn't have children. Adultery is wrong.

Breece: Um, that argument doesn't work very well in your favor. If there is no sin where there is no law, then there is sin where there is law. And the Bible most definitely contains laws against ho.mose.xuality. Thus, according to that verse you quoted, it is a sin.

Um, Breece, that scripture contradicts your own position. If there is no sin where there there is no law, then there is sin where there is law. And the Bible definitely contains laws against h o m o s e x u a l  i t y.

Leviticus 18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is an abomination."
But do we use Leviticus laws for anything else? Not really. Leviticus says we should kill children who disrespect their parents (Leviticus 20: 9-12). It says handicapped people should not approach the altar (Leviticus 21:16-23). It tells us not to mix 2 different types of cattle, not to wear clothes of more than 1 material, and not to sow fields with 2 different seeds (Leviticus 19:19). So the Leviticus condemnation to h.omos.exuality is invalid.

Many of the laws became obsolete due to Jesus' death and ressurection. But here are som NT verses condemning homosexuality: 

Romans 1:26-27

 

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 

 

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 

 

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 

 

And 1 Timothy 1:9-10

 

9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

Why does an old outdated book that is not relevant to your time bother you when it condemns homosexuality?

Anyways, I'd just like to point out that in hedonistic pagan cultures s.ex was glorified in all its forms. There were h.omosexual priests in the temples in Canaan and I believe parts of Mesopotamia, while Greek apprentices regularly did funky things with their "masters" as it was apparently a part of growing up. My point? H.omosexuals have not been repressed throughout history. They were only even condemned by the strict moral code of the Abrahamic religions and perhaps some of the more ascetic Eastern traditions.
 
Yet, regardless of this societies have not recognized h.omosexual partnerships as the equivalent of heterosexual marriage. H.omosexual acts were just laughed about and sometimes even glrified, but they were seen as immature--something people should grow out of and start a heterosexual family. Only in modern Western society has their been an effort to fight for the establishment of h.omosexual partnership as an institution. 
 
Also, without getting into a lengthy explication of the Torah and its relevancy to Christian ethics, I'd like to point out that the New Testament says the same thing in both Romans and I believe one of the Timothys. Too lazy to wade through Google for exact references at the moment.
