Everyone always says how amazing "To Kill A Mockingbird" is, but honestly, it's one of the worst books I have ever read. Does anyone else feel the same?

I feel the same way about most of the books taught at my high school! To Kill A Mockingbird definitely wasn't one of my favorites, but that wasn't the books fault. It was the teacher's. She has sucessfully made me hate Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet and an armful of short stories.
To Kill A Mockingbird is one of those books that translated well over to film; if you haven't seen that, take a look. Sometimes watching something gives a different persepective. I'm not saying you'll ever love it, but maybe you should give it another chance.

I agree with you on the teacher part, and i have seen the movie, but i still can't seem to enjoy the book haha

I just didn't think there was a plot, there were too many story lines. The only part i liked was the trial, but i found that it really didnt have anything to do with the characters themselves, other than atticus of course. i just wish it didn't have so many themes. and i don't understand why it is so beloved.

Yeah, I can see how that would bug you, I just kinda thought that's how life is, there isn't really an immediately percievable plot.

I loved To Kill A Mockingbird! How can you not like it? I'm re-reading it again right now. It's awsome!

i dont hate it but i don't see why everybody is like obessed with it! everybody is like ''oh its an amzing book'' but its not and while you earn a few lessons, at the end of the day its not even written that well! like i'm not say i could write better (well maybe) but its not as great as everybody says it it! and i thought i was the only one!

I haven't read it at all. But I think everyone thinks it's good. I don't want to be stupid but what is it?

It's a book dealing with Racism and Prejudice. Taught well, it's a great book, but if not, it can be a bore! I liked it... It's much better than Snow Falling on Cedars, which is what I have to read right now....

I really didn't enjoy reading the book. My parents always told me it was amazing and I should read it before we read it in school, but I could never bring myself to. I think I was the only kid in my whole grade not to like it. I didn't understand what was so special about it, and I was waiting for some big ending that never came. The ending was probably what ruined it the most, there is this whole build up to pretty much nothing and it really bothered me.

One book I do hate...a classic, is Romeo and Juliet... or anything by Shakespeare pretty much. I just never was a fan, really.

I felt that the writing was tedious to read...Harper Lee just keeps on going on and on... It definitely wasn't the best book I read, but it wasn't the worst either. I guess it's so beloved because it was one of the first books to deal with the issue of racism

Everyone else in my grade hated it, I love it! (Reading it right now) Yes there are some tedious parts, but it is a descripton of everyday life and notion of the little things that make life worth observing. I am writer who describes little things in blown up detail so I find the book relatable and enjoyable. I agree though the teacher makes it su.ck a little......

I was reading what someone else was sayingearlier about too many themes, not enough plot. I just love books like that. They invite you to take it slow, to soak in the story. And also, just sayin', I absoulutely adored every freaking word of To Kill a Mockingbird.
